The Southern Utah Pylon Racing Association
held it's first race of the 2009 season on March 14. The event
was hosted by the Remote Possibilities RC Club and was held at their new flying
site in St. George, Utah. We were able to
complete 3 rounds in 3 classes in just over 3 hours.
The
weather was perfect and temperatures were in the 70's with very little wind throughout the day. It was a
great day for racing and the competition was very competitive in all 3 classes.
Only
one fatal crash occurred during the event in the Sundowner class and there will
always be the question as to whether it was the result of a mid-air collision or
not. The other plane the was "allegedly" involved did not appear
to sustain any damage. The world may never know.
There were a
total of 12 registered pilots and 14 registered aircraft in three classes.
The three clubs involved, (Remote Possibilities, St. George, Ut, The Desert Fox
Flyers, Mesquite, Nv and the Cedar City Radio Control Club, Cedar City, Ut) had
good representation at the event.
