June 13, 2008
Crews from the
County have been working diligently over the last few weeks to continue
to improve the runway and surrounding area. The field is in very
good shape and should be flyable for the rest of the season. A
huge thanks is owed to the County landfill crew, BLM and the County road
crew for working hard to make this all possible.
Along with work being done on
the runway, the BLM contracted to have the access road and parking lot
improved. This included leveling and grading the parking lot as
well as adding a nice layer of good roadbase. It should last for
quite some time.
Another look at the parking
lot. This is looking Northeast and shows the permanent restroom
facility that was installed.
Looking North from the pit
area. It is a bit hard to tell from the picture, but the bank of
dirt is over 5 feet tall.
Looking South from the pit area. Once again it is hard to see, but
the South end of the runway was lowered at least 5 feet. The dirt
from the South end was moved to the North in an attempt to make the
runway level.
Another look from the pit area looking North.
Standing on the West side of the runway looking east across to the pit
area. More work was done on the field after this picture was taken
so most of the divots and wheel marks have been smoothed over.
Standing on the West side of the runway looking North. You can see
the height of the bank a little easier in this image.
Standing on the West side of the runway looking South.
Standing in the center of the runway looking South. Once again,
more work was done on the field after this picture was taken so the
wheel marks are pretty much non-existent.
Standing at the North end looking South.
Standing on the North end of the runway looking West.
Standing in the middle of the parking lot looking West into the pit
area.
